Perhaps not all fashionistas know the existence of Batik Belanda.
Batik Belanda is actually Indonesian batik, which motifs have been influenced by Dutch culture. Back in the Dutch colonial era, many Dutch citizens who stayed in Indonesia fell in love with Indonesian batik. However, they wanted colors and patterns that were more familiar to them . So, they created Dutch and European flower patterns and images of fairy tales with more cheerful color to its fabric.
The Dutch Cultural Centre in Jakarta, the Erasmus Huis, and the Netherlands Embassy proudly present the revival of Dutch Batik (Batik Belanda) at this year’s Jakarta Fashion Week (JFW2013). This cultural heritage between two countries will be presented in the contemporary collection of 3 young and talented designers from Indonesia, who were involved in the prestigious fashion event, Lomba Perancang Mode (LPM), last year, and who were assigned to develop old Batik Belanda into new, modern designs of Batik Belanda The results are surprising and magnificent!
Lulu Lutfi Labibi, the first winner of LPM 2011, will present baroque nuance in his batik designs. Meanwhile, Iwan Amir and Sischset Detta, the finalists LPM 2011, will explore batik in flowery and pastel colors in the casual style up to the luxury one.
The works of these 3 designers will be presented on the catwalk at the special Batik Belanda fashion show on Wednesday 7th of November 2012, at 13:00 pm. We are sorry to inform you that tickets for this event are SOLD OUT.
